The text begins with an oration in praise of the greatness of God, his power and oneness, the author clothing the subject in interpretive anecdotes, commentary on the traditions and the Koran, and inserting the occasional poem into the text. Mevlana’s fluent oratorical style allows him to present theories of religion, morals and mysticism on a popular level. The Mecalis-i Seb’a has, like Mevlana’s other major works, been translated into several languages, the two major Turkish versions being published in 1937 by Prof. Uzluk and Kitapci Hulusi, and in 1965 by Abdulbaki Golpinarli.
