Ephesus :: Marble way

The portion stretching from the Gymnasium of Vedius to the front of the Celsus Library has been referred to as the "Marble Way" .Originally constructed in the 1st century A.D., this street was rebuilt in the 5th century with funds provided by a man named Eutropius. The western side of the street is enclosed by means of a well-decorated Agora wall.

Since this street was set aside for vehicular traffic, a rather high platform was built for pedestrians over the wall on the Agora side. This covered platform, built in the Doric style, looked down on the Agora and on the street.
