In this village at a distance of 10 km from Nevsehir and 3 km from Goreme rises the Uchisar castle. It is situated on the Nevsehir-Avanos road. Under Uchisar which is the highest summit of Goreme are fairy chimneys and colonies of rocks. Uchisar which was formerly entirely covered by tuff is today pierced by holes caused by erosion in time which gave it conical shapes.
An underground passage of about 100 m links the dwellings cut in rocks with the river bed beneath; this passage served to convey water without being caught by the sight of enemies. The Uzundere and Avcilar valleys stretch in all their splendours beneath.
