Sinan The Architect :: The Sokollu Complex, Luleburgaz

Originally composed of a mosque, a medrese, a dar-ul kurra, primary school, kervansaray, refectory, arasta (a row or street of specialised shops) and double hamam, it carries the characteristics of both a stopover and a city complex. The kervansaray and refectory have not survived. The extra prayer dome and the arasta are situated in the prolongation of the mosque, creating a splendid effect. The whole composition is developed on the axis of the Kiblah, enhancing the sense of the direction toward Mecca.
